The on-board charger can be divided according to the number of phases (one phase, two-phase or three-phase) and output. The power output of the on-board charger is usually between 3.7 kW and 22 kW. The on-board charger allows you to control the current and voltage that the battery needs to charge (voltage or current control mode), thus guaranteeing the longevity of the battery. The charger provides constant current or constant voltage charging, both of which are easy to operate. They each have advantages and disadvantages. In the case of constant-current charging, the efficiency and charging speed are high, but there is a risk of overcharging the battery at a later stage, shortening its life. In the case of constant voltage charging, there can be too much current flowing into the battery from the start, which can overheat the battery and shorten its life again. Therefore, the charger ensures that it is initially charged at a constant current, thus maintaining speed and efficiency, and when the voltage across the battery reaches a certain magnitude, the charger changes to constant voltage charging. This system, called charging strategy, is the most important function of an on-board charger. The first stage is the so-called PFC stage (Power Factor Controller or Power Factor Correction), which converts alternating current to direct current. This part of the charger determines whether it can use single-phase, two-phase or three-phase AC power. The output voltage of 700V then goes into the second phase. The second stage is called LLC converter. The input is the above 700V, and the output is the voltage required by the battery at a given charging moment.
