    BBW refers to the facility of controlling the brakes in a vehicle through electrical means, rather than the involvement of more traditional mechanical linkages. BBW can be of two kinds by end intent: it may be so designed to supplement the existing braking effort, or it may function as a standalone braking system by itself. BBW is currently used in a wide variety of vehicles, which have a higher than normal electronic content, including all HEVs and EVs such as the Toyota Prius.
