The Storage Controller is the component of eucalyptus that manages EBS volumes. Eucalyptus uses the iSCSI protocol to connect EBS volumes to instances, and uses standard linux commands for configuring and exporting the volumes to instances. Volumes are represented as files on the filesystem of the machine hosting the SC.
